Sometimes, the numbers lie. On paper, Kyle Monangai’s matchup against Virginia Tech looks unimpressive - his lowest yards per carry of the season. But when you turn on the film, you see a back who fought for every inch against a disciplined, swarming Hokies front.
This carry is a perfect example. The play breaks down, and Monangai has to adjust on the fly - sidestepping a defensive tackle, accelerating through the wash, and shaking the safety in space. That’s what we call Bull Yards - every yard gained after an avoided tackle, whether through a juke, a stiff arm, or sheer force.
These are the yards that can’t be faked.
